Pregnancy Months

Being pregnant and having a baby is what most women dream of, it can be considered as one of the most amazing nine months journey that they will go through. It can be difficult at times but the end result is others coined to be magical because of the development that happens to the fetus as it becomes a baby during pregnancy month by month.

First month: At the end of four weeks of pregnancy the baby is only about 0.1 to 0.2 mm in length, the placenta is not yet fully formed so the yolk sac is what holds the baby to be able to implant itself in the uterus.

Second month: The baby is now an embryo since it has implanted itself in the uterus, the baby’s heart will start beating. Measuring about 8 to 11 mm, the toes and fingers are slowly forming.

Third month: The baby is now a fetus. Although it is constantly moving, the mother still cannot feel it. The bones are starting to harden, eyes are now opened, ears are formed and the gender is also forming during this time. The baby’s head is now half the size of its body, with length of about 3.54 inches.

Fourth month: About 3 ounces in weight and 6 inches in length. The baby’s teeth are formed and also the hair. Also the baby starts to urinate during this period and has its own insulin and bile.

Fifth month: About 10 ounces in weight and 9.8 inches in length. The baby’s movements can now be felt, it even responds to some sounds. Sixth month: The baby now prepares for birth by practicing breathing. Almost 11.8 inches in length now, the baby can still move around and sometimes with wild kicks.

Seventh month: The womb is getting smaller for the baby and movements are now limited. The head now starts to turn down and may have a sleep and wake cycles since it can already sense light and dark. With a length of about 13.8 inches long and weighing almost 1 kilogram, if the baby is born during this time it will have a higher survival rate than in earlier months.

Eight month: This is the start of a considerable weight gain in the baby; it may weigh about almost 2 kilograms at this point. Also all the organs are completely formed.

Ninth month: The lungs are now undergoing some preparation so that it can expand on birth. The baby may measure about 18 to 22 inches and is now ready to face the world.
