Pornography Addiction

Pornography addiction originated in viewing magazine and video pornography. However, the pornography addict now has a new and frighteningly powerful stimulus called the Internet. Pornography addicts view online photos, download pornography films, or indulge in web-cam sex. Some use the Internet just for seeing pictures while others use the Internet to meet anonymous sexual partners or for one night stands. Through using a web-cam, pornography addicts can engage in real-time sexual activity with whomever provides it to them. For example: some of this activity is paid for, as in online prostitution. Some of the activity is acted our with whomever shows up.

Pornography addiction, what is it?

Pornography addiction leads addicts to exchange important relationships and commitments for Internet or other types of pornography. Non-Internet pornography addicts tend to frequent strip-clubs or adult bookstores. However, they probably do not have a strip-club addiction or an adult bookstore addiction. Rather they have ongoing and compulsive sexual problems that surface in a variety of scenarios.

Pornography addiction leads addicts to isolate themselves when sexually acting out. They can typically spend several hours or even days lost in online pictures and experiences. Pornography addiction is painfully isolating, causing real life consequences for the person addicted. Pornography addiction also carries a moral stigma and the probability that love and sex relationships will be damaged and endangered.

Some sex and pornography addicts compulsively masturbate as a part of their acting out. Others engage only minimally in the sex act itself but still lose themselves in the limitless sexual pictures and sites found on the Internet.

Pornography addiction can include the following symptoms:
  • * An inability to refrain from the behavior (s) and pornography use, despite numerous attempts to quit
  • * Anger or irritability if requested to stop
  • * Attempting to conceal their pornography use
  • * Continuing the behavior regardless of the obvious, negative consequences – such as loosing a relationship or a job
  • * Losing oneself through pornography use - i.e. Spending more time than intended, losing time, losing track of time
  • * escaping from uncomfortable feelings and situations through a pornography/sexual high.
