Avoid Pregnancy

A study shows that about 85 percent of women who are sexually active and do not use any preventive measures will get pregnant within a year, and most of these women are not ready for that big responsibility whether they are married or not. There are different ways to prevent pregnancy and with the right knowledge it can be done effectively.

There are three ways to avoid pregnancy:

  • Contraceptives
  • Family planning
  • Permanent methods

Using contraception has been considered the most effective method of prevention. There are many kinds of contraception in the market and although it does not give a 100 percent protection studies shows that it gives a range of 75 to 99 percent of assurance.

For women, there are several contraceptives to consider. There are diaphragm, oral contraceptives, injection, implants, female condom, IUD, female sterilization, emergency contraception and morning after IUD. Among these, oral contraceptives have been considered the most widely used.

Oral contraceptives are said to be 92 to 97 percent effective as a birth control method if it would be taken consistently and on schedule. It is the most popular, because not only is it cheap, but also very convenient.

If a woman decides to really be able to stop conceiving a child there are also permanent measures that can be done and this is through tubal ligation. An operation is necessary to be able to do this and it is non reversible since a woman’s fallopian tubes will be tied so that eggs cannot pass through the uterus.

Not only do women have the ability to avoid pregnancy, but men can also do their share in preventing unwanted pregnancy. The most widely used contraceptive method used by men is the condom. These condoms are disposable latex rubber placed on a man’s genital before intercourse.

A permanent method of prevention is also available for men, this is through vasectomy. Vasectomy is done through a very quick and minor surgery and can even be done without the use of scalpel. Just like in female tubal ligation, in vasectomy the man’s tube called vas deferens is tied so that sperm cannot pass through.
