Anorexia Nervosa is one of the most well known eating disorders. Although it is classified by losing 15% or more of original body mass. Anorexia Nervosa affects 1 to 2 percent of the populace and 90% of those affected are women. Most women experience signs in their teenage years.
There is much debate on what causes anorexia nervosa. Some professionals attribute it to psychological troubles, sparked by a particular traumatic event. Other people feel it's biological or genetic. Yet there are still others who believe that society's accenting of a thinner physique affects the psyche of many women. They feel pressured to be thinner than they should.
Many women with anorexia nervosa are able to adapt to their disorder and some hide it well enough until it is too late becoming hospitalized with a feeding tube and even dying.
The most important way to reverse the onslaught of anorexia nervosa is awareness and knowledge. These will empower the individual and family to take the proper action.
